Quality you can trust

There’s a simple rule we’ve always believed in: if you’re going to feed wild birds, it should be food worth eating. We focus on products that help birds thrive, the sort of high-energy, high-quality feed that birds actively seek out and return to, especially when the weather turns and natural food sources dip.

And it’s not just about what you buy, it’s about how well it works in real gardens. That’s why we stock practical, well-made feeders and accessories that are built to last, easy to use, and easy to keep clean.

Proper service, whether you order online or by phone

Some people love the convenience of clicking “add to basket”. Others prefer a quick chat and a bit of guidance. Either way, you’ll get the same attention and care.

A letter from the founder...

Phil Snowzell

Hello,

Who would have thought that running out of bird food on a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon in 2012 would lead to a real lightbulb moment for me?

My wife Rosie and I had been feeding the birds in our garden for years, and we’d regularly pop to the local garden centre for peanuts, sunflower hearts and fatballs.

That particular day, I checked online to see if any local businesses offered home delivery, but there was nothing. So, off I went to the garden centre for a twelve-mile round trip!

The following morning, while I was lying in bed listening to the early birdsong, the idea came to me. I jumped out of bed, dashed to the computer, and spent the whole day Googling and drinking plenty of coffee. By the end of it, I’d put together a simple plan: to build a business delivering high-quality wild bird food and accessories to people across Herefordshire.

Over the next few months, I worked on that plan, and in February 2013, we opened for business in a tiny shop in Hereford. With a new website, a van, and plenty of stock, I placed my first advert in the local paper, The Hereford Times.

The response was immediate. The phone started ringing with calls from all over the county, with people asking for home delivery.

While Rosie looked after the shop, I hit the road. On that very first delivery day, I completed twelve orders and drove 80 miles around Herefordshire.

Fast forward to 2025, and the business is now based in a large industrial building on the outskirts of Hereford. Rosie and I have decided the time is right to retire and hand over the reins to Angela (Ang), who has been an invaluable part of the team for the past five years.

Ang is continuing The Wild Bird Store journey with the same values Rosie and I started with, offering the highest quality products at very competitive prices, while keeping that friendly family business feel at the heart of everything.

We now deliver throughout England and Wales (with Scotland coming soon), and you can always count on a professional, friendly service for you, and especially for your garden wildlife!

Warm regards

Phil.
